Field Trip 2009

In my kids’ school, field trip is being held every two years. This arrangement makes the kids to look forward to it with more eagerness. Arrangements were done months before and payments were staggered to encourage more participation. We were three buses this year and that includes moms and kids (Grades 4 and 5, and high school students were allowed to join without guardians). But even then I noticed that most kids did not join. Either because they had been to the place before or maybe due to financial issues.

As in previous field trips, I was wary of the body pains, exhaustion and other complaints that my kids will experience. So I brought with me pain relievers and other first aid medications. I thought it’s better to be always prepared. But every aches and pains was worth it. My kids did really enjoy all the places we went to. Its just that cameras were not allowed in Malacanang and GSIS museum, two of the places we visited.

GSIS museum was the first stop. There we saw the original works of famous Filipino artists. My kids were able to appreciate them as they saw in reality everything that they had been memorizing in their Art subject.

Manila Ocean Park was the second stop. It was actually the best among the places we’ve been to. Since both my kids love all water-living creatures, they really had fun going over the entire place especially in the tunnel where we saw lots of sting rays and lots of different kinds of underwater fishes. I also noticed the fish spa where you can have the experience of being cleansed in the feet by small fishes. But we were not able to try because of time constraints.

After taking our lunch in the bus, we headed to Malacanang. We were hoping to be greeted by the President herself but unfortunately she was not around. Again cameras were not allowed so we just walked through the museum and appreciated the works of past presidents, the books they wrote, awards they gathered for our country, some of their clothes and things they used, and the places where they held meetings and other important occasions.

The last stop, Science Discovery Center, found in SM Mall of Asia, was another hit. There we saw the time machine, different robots used in the movies, the chance to fly the flight simulator, and the ability to experience earthquake at different scales. Your view of the earth will totally change as you listen and travel with the future inside the Planetarium.

It was really a fun-filled and very informative day. My kids are hoping more of its kind in the next trips.
