If you are familiar with diabetes, or has a family member who is diabetic, you probably are familiar with the drug metformin. It is a first-line drug in the treatment of diabetes. It is usually taken at 1000 to 1500mg daily.

In a meta-analysis published in the American Journal of Medicine 2008, it has been found that the drug metformin can delay the onset of diabetes in patients who are at risk over a three-year period. This means that the drug can be taken too by pre-diabetic individuals or IGT (Impaired Glucose Tolerance) individuals.

Nothing still beats regular exercise and lifestyle modification in the prevention of diabetes. But this is something we can turn to in order to ease the fear of having this condition.

    Yes, smiles4angels. Because it reduces insulin, this slows down the action of an enzyme seen in the ovaries that causes increased testosterone production. It also restores the normal menstrual cycle in patients with PCOS, as well as reduces risk of miscarriage.
